CAPE TOWN - Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane has fired the entire Overberg Water board following financial irregularities.

A forensic investigation found the board had failed to protect the assets and financial records of the government entity with honesty and integrity.

This relates to irregularities discovered in financial claims made by board members prior to and in 2016.

Mokonyane wrote to them in April to explain why they should not be removed.

Her spokesperson Mlimandlela Ndamase said: “She had received responses in May 2017 and has since taken the decision to terminate the term of office of the board.”

Overberg Water is tasked with supplying water services to water service institutions and farms in the Overberg region.
