The 35-year-old was seriously wounded following a shootout with law enforcement officials at the Great Fish River Nature Reserve.

At the weekend police announced suspected rhino poacher Sydney Malose, who had been handcuffed to a bed in an East London hospital, had disappeared.

Only a pair of bolt cutters was left behind despite being under police guard.

“He may be dangerous. Do not try to apprehend him.”

Tonjeni adds police are unsure how Malose managed to escape.
