JOHANNESBURG - Three people have been arrested after Sars customs officials intercepted 10 bags and three boxes with counterfeit goods estimated at over R4.2 million at OR Tambo International Airport.
Officials say the bust happened over the long weekend.
The three were arrested after being linked to the bags and boxes filled with designer clothing.
Sars' Sandile Memela says the goods had touched down from Hong Kong.
“Passengers from Hong Kong via Nairobi coming into Johannesburg and linked to the 10 bags and three boxes, filled with designer wrist watches, footwear and tracksuits have since been handed over to the counterfeit team and brand holder attorneys."
Memela says in a separate bust on Sunday, two passengers on a plane from Sao Paulo to Johannesburg were arrested for swallowing 49 cocaine bullets each estimated at R235 000.
