LONDON - Harrowing witness accounts, tales of incredible escapes and a flood of generosity have followed a massive fire that engulfed an apartment block in west London.

At least six people have died in the blaze and more than 70 were injured - of which 20 were in a critical condition.

Some 250 firefighters battled the flames for hours this morning at the 24-storey Grenfell Tower.

London’s mayor has described the fire as horrific. The city’s fire chief Dany Cotton says there doesn’t appear to be any threat of the building collapsing.

Investigations will explore the cause of the fire, the evacuation of the building and whether earlier warnings had been ignored.
