Lawyer: Mark Zinde should be readmitted for psychiatric evaluation
The 23-year-old began swearing at the conclusion of what was supposed to be the start of his murder trial in the high court in Pretoria on Monday.
JOHANNESBURG – The attorney representing Mark Zinde, who is accused of killing his mother former SABC board member Hope Zinde, says his client is emotionally irrational and it would be in the best interests of justice for him to be readmitted for psychiatric evaluation.
The 23-year-old began swearing at the conclusion of what was supposed to be the start of his murder trial in the High Court in Pretoria on Monday.
He is accused of killing his mother at her home in the Peacanwood Estate in Hartbeespoort Dam in June last year.
Zinde’s lawyer François Joubert says they will be bringing an application on Wednesday to have the 23-year-old readmitted for psychiatric observation.
“We also assessed him and then we thought it would be wise to send him back to the facility for further assessment.”
It’s understood that he attacked his father while he was out on bail last year. He now faces charges of murder, attempted murder, assault and being in possession of drugs.
During his brief court appearance on Monday, Zinde shouted swear words as he was being escorted to his cells shortly after the court proceedings.
