Knysna fires: WC govt to focus on damage assessments
The runaway fires in the Eden district has now been contained.
CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Local Government Department says the focus will now shift to damage assessments and reconstitution efforts following wildfires that ravaged parts of the Southern Cape.
The runaway fires in the Eden district have now been contained.
Seven people were killed and thousands more have been displaced.
The department's James-Brent Styan says: “A humanitarian effort lies ahead. We’ve got to do damage assessment, look at supplying people with ID documents and social welfare cards.”
