Rob Davies: R7m sponsorship of Black Business Council above board
The Department of Trade and Industry Minister says Treasury approved the payment in 2015 and that it was spread over three years.
Davies has told Parliament that National Treasury approved the payment in 2015 and that it was spread over three years.
Davies says the DTI spent more in bringing together various business structures to form Business Unity South Africa (Busa).
Davies says the R7 million paid to the Black Business Council is above board.
The Democratic Alliance asked Davies to publicly apologise for the transfer, claiming the BBC is a front used by the Gupta family to attack Treasury.
“No need to apologise because there’s nothing to apologise about. The BBC was required to provide reports on the funding which was being disbursed to them and to provide audited financial statements. So, I am satisfied the money, which is a very small amount of money, was used for purposes which also coincide with the mandate of the DTI and not being used for any unwarranted purposes.”
Davies was answering questions in the National Assembly.
