Mbalula promises sweeping changes within SAPS structures

New acting police chief Lesetja Mothiba was introduced to Parliament's Police Committee on Wednesday.
Deputy Police Minister Bongani Mkongi says Mothiba will restore confidence in the SAPS.
Mbalula says he wants to ensure appointments to top jobs in the police service are made within the next three months, this includes the head of the Hawks and the police commissioner.
“I’m looking forward to that to ensure that there’s stability.”
The Police Minister has told the committee he intends to make changes to the police strategic support structure and the surveillance secretariat.
“Our secretariats are not pulling the weight that they are supposed. I see a lot of people employed there but what they are doing, I can’t tell you.”
The term of suspended National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega ends this week.
