Cars, buses and Rea Vaya station torched in Riverlea protest
Motorists have been warned to avoid Main Reef Road following reports of buses, cars and a Rea Vaya station being torched while passing cars being pelted with bricks.
JOHANNESBURG – Motorists have been warned to avoid Main Reef Road and Commando Road in the west of Johannesburg due to violent protests currently underway.
Police say two minibus taxis and cars have been burnt allegedly by residents of Riverlea.
There have also been reports of passing cars being pelted with bricks.

The reason for the demonstration is not yet clear.
Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Wayne Minaar says extensive damage to property has been reported.
“Two quantum’s, two motor cars, buses and the Rea Vaya station has also been set alight. The area is not safe and more officers have been sent (there).”
