CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Education Department says security at some Lavender Hill schools will be beefed up due to ongoing gang violence.

At least four schools had to be closed last week.

But the department's Paddy Atwell says educators and pupils will return to schools on Tuesday.

“Police have undertaken to step up patrols while our Safe Schools programme will arrange for additional security at schools. The Community Safety Department will share this responsibility, as it needs very close coordination and it’s happening. The schools agreed to continue today.”
