Lanzerac Wine Estate counts the cost of fire damage
Firefighters could save the centuries old manor house on Lanzerac Wine Estate from the fire, which gutted the building right next to it.
CAPE TOWN - The Lanzerac Wine Estate is counting the cost of a devastating fire over the weekend.
Irreplaceable works of art and antiques went up in smoke.
Firefighters managed to save the centuries-old manor house on Lanzerac Wine Estate from the fire, but not the building next to it, which was gutted.
The structure, which dates back to 1926, was engulfed by the flames, destroying valuable items in it, such as an antique French cupboard reportedly worth R600,000.
A source has confirmed that the destroyed building housed the reception, bar, restaurant and some offices.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and no injuries have been reported.
