City arms vulnerable women with whistles and self defence classes
The Nelson Mandela Bridge and UJ Auckland Park campus are among the hot spot areas for reported attacks on women.
Xolani Gwala received an email from a listener whose niece is at University of Johannesburg, Auckland Park campus, and living in absolute fear.
She says that she knows of numerous instances where men in cars are abducting girls allegedly for human
trafficking purposes or to sell organs.
After reading the email on Thursday, the Breakfast Show team then received countless phone calls and more emails from people who live in the area and corroborated the story.
City of Joburg MMC for Safety, Michael Sun, says they are aware of the reports and have put additional security measures in hot spot places.
Sun says the Nelson Mandela bridge is also one of the areas that have come into the spotlight.
We do want to encourage anybody with information to report it to SAPS, or come to us.Michael Sun, City of Joburg MMC for public safety
Sun says the City will also be rolling out free defence classes for women.
