CAPE TOWN – Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu says it's urgent that housing delivery is speeded up but she also says land invasions and violent protests must stop.

Sisulu says the recent protests in places like Ennerdale and Eldorado Park were an expression of deeper socio-economic ills, including crime, drugs and overcrowding.

“Land invasions will have to stop so that we can use the land to benefit the greatest number of people, and violence is not an acceptable way of protest.”

Sisulu was introducing debate on her department's R33.4 billion budget.
