Ipid: We cannot allow Phahlane to hinder our investigations
The directorate is accusing acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane of interfering with witnesses and asking them not to co-operate.
JOHANNESBURG - Police Watchdog Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) says it has nothing against acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane but insists it cannot allow him to hinder their investigations.
The directorate is accusing Phahlane of interfering with witnesses and asking them not to cooperate.
The gloves came off on Tuesday when Ipid head Robert Mcbride and Phahlane appeared together before Parliament's Police Committee.
Phahlane accused the watchdog body of being captured, while it called for his suspension until the investigation is concluded.
Ipid’s chief director of investigations Matthews Sesoko says: “We cannot have a situation where we’re investigating the police and therefore we have a counter-investigation against ourselves and our investigation is impeded.”
