JOHANNESBURG - Police have launched a manhunt for a group of unidentified suspects who were involved in a shoot-out with security guards at the Nicolway Shopping Mall in Bryanston.

It’s understood security guards became suspicious of the group when it was walking around the mall in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police say they believe the men had intended to rob the mall, but were interrupted before they could do so.

The suspects then hijacked a quantum taxi a few metres from the mall after fleeing the scene.

The police's Mavela Masondo says no injuries were reported.

“We suspect the motive was to rob as they were armed, but they were interrupted before they could continue with their mission.”
