JOHANNESBURG - Wits University management is expected to meet with student leaders on Friday morning after protests at its Parktown campus.

A group of students apparently blocked the entrances to the institution, preventing staff from leaving.

It appears students are concerned about issues relating to financial aid, bursaries and accommodation.

The university's spokesperson Shirona Patel says they’re not against protests.

“The university allows protests provided it is peaceful and doesn’t infringe on the rights of others. In this case, while we understand that it was peaceful, it infringed on the rights of those who wanted to leave campus.”
