Residents believe illegal electricity connections have led to exorbitant bills.
JOHANNESBURG – Police say about 500 Mamelodi residents took to the street on Friday morning in protest over illegal electricity connections.
Residents believe the illegal connections have led to exorbitant bills.
It’s understood the protesters prevented cars from entering or leaving the township east of Pretoria.
They're demanding that housing MMC Mandla Nkomo address them.
The police's Connie Moganedi said the situation was tense.
“Police are deployed all around the place and monitoring the situation. They are burning tyres and blocking exits out of Mamelodi. No vehicle is getting out or inside Mamelodi at this moment.”
