CAPE TOWN – Moving to New York or working abroad is a dream that many people have.

South African-born vocalist Connell Cruise is living that dream and has made a name for himself abroad.

Cruise, who entered Idols SA in 2010, bagged three SAMA nominations for his debut hit Not Just Friends. He later landed a deal with Island Records in New York City where he resides.

He has since toured across the United States and performed at several festivals.

The Joburg vocalist has returned home and spent some time with the KFM Breakfast team in Cape Town to chat about his experience in New York and his latest album, Barely Breathing.

He says crowds in the US have "a lot of love" for South Africa and have showed up with the South African flag.
