CAPE TOWN - A fire in Dunoon has left dozens of people homeless and has claimed the life of one man.

The blaze broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning in the informal settlement where hundreds of structures are clumped together.

It’s still unclear what caused the fire that destroyed ten homes.

The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management team and Red Cross are helping with relief efforts.

The city's Liezl Moodie says, “Ten wooden iron structures were destroyed by fire leaving approximately 50 persons displaced. One man died as a result of fatal burn wounds.”
