CAPE TOWN - A man has died and about 300 others have been left without shelter following a shack fire in Hout Bay.

The blaze broke out in Mandela Park in the early hours of Sunday morning, destroying more than 100 dwellings.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

The City of Cape Town's fire and rescue services’ Theo Layne said, “Twelve fire engines, eight water tankers and more than 85 firefighters brought the fire under control this morning. Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the day to deal with any flare-ups.”

Another person has been killed and more than 200 others have been displaced in various shack fires across the Cape Peninsula this weekend.
