Mbalula withdraws appeal against Ntlemeza judgment
Berning Ntlemeza was arguing in court to have a judgment, which effectively kicked him out of his job, set aside.
JOHANNESBURG – Newly appointed Police Minister Fikile Mbalula has decided to withdraw the appeal in the matter of General Berning Ntlemeza.
On Wednesday the Hawks boss was arguing in court to have a judgment, which effectively kicked him out of his job, set aside.
The Helen Suzman Foundation and Freedom Under Law have argued since 2015 that Ntlemeza should never have been appointed to head the elite crime-fighting unit.
Mbalula will now meet with the top management of the hawks to inform them of his decision.
Spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga said: “The minister took the decision after he consulted with the lawyers, and the reasons will be given in the press briefing tomorrow after he has met top management in the Hawks. After that he will explain everything to the nation.”
