Habib’s contract as vice-chancellor renewed for 5 more years
Adam Habib was appointed to the position in 2013 when the term of his predecessor Loyiso Nongxa ended.
The university’s council made the decision on Friday night following various consultations with different constituencies.

Wits spokesperson Shirona Patel says Habib has made an immense contribution to the institution.
“During professor Habib’s tenure, despite the protests we’ve seen around the students funding, Wits has made tremendous achievements. For example, professor Habib has consolidated Wits’ research programme and the university has seen an unprecedented 43% increase in research output output in recent years.”
