Home Affairs to extend operating hours over Easter
The department will be extending hours at selected ports of entry over the Easter long weekend for the convenience of travellers.
JOHANNESBURG - New Home Affairs Minister Hlengiwe Mkhize says her department will be extending hours at selected ports of entry over the Easter long weekend for the convenience of travellers.
Mkhize briefed the media for the first time today since being appointed by President Jacob Zuma last week.
She takes over from Malusi Gigaba who now heads up National Treasury.
Mkhize says operating hours at various high volume ports of entries will be extended by 24 hours from 11 to 19 April.
This will apply to OR Tambo International Airport, the Beit Bridge Border Post in Limpopo and Maseru Bridge in the Free State.
She says her department will also deploy at least 200 additional staff members to the travel points, including senior managers.
The new minister says her department is ready to deliver efficient service during the Easter holiday season which she says saw over seven million travellers coming in and out of South Africa last year.
