JOHANNESBURG - 'Farewell, we'll miss you.'

Pravin Gordhan and Mcebisi Jonas walked out of the National Treasury's Pretoria offices with a smile after saying their final goodbyes to the men and women they worked with to keep the country's finances in order.

The pair was amongst seven ministers and deputy ministers who were axed by President Jacob Zuma late on Thursday evening.

Gordhan and Jonas received a warm reception when the addressed Treasury staff hours after Zuma's night of the long knives.

The goodbye they were ushered out with was even more moving.

As the two headed out onto Treasury's steps to meet the media and well-wishers gathered outside, they raised their hands one last time.
