Spur to ban man in restaurant altercation
The restaurant has reacted to a viral video of a white man threatening a black woman in a heated debate at the Spur in Oakdene in Johannesburg.
JOHANNESBURG – Restaurant chain Spur says that once it has established his identity, the man involved in what has been described as a racist incident at one of its branches will be banned from all its steak ranches in the country.
A video has gone viral of the white man and a black woman involved in a heated debate at the Spur in Oakdene in Johannesburg.
In the video, the man can be seen aggressively shaking a table at which the woman is sitting with a group of children.
Spur has described the incident as unfortunate, saying it does not condone any form of racism.
The heated exchange went on for a few minutes without staff at the restaurant intervening.
The two parents apparently accused each other's children of bullying at the restaurant, with the man threatening to hit the woman.
During the exchange the woman stands up and says she cannot be bullied by the man, reminding him South Africa is a democratic country.

Spur's Kevin Robertson says they are investigating.
“We are also looking at our footage and we are also investigating the matter because we don’t tolerate incidents of this nature.”
Spur says it is disappointed that children were exposed to this type of behaviour and is trying to establish the man's identity.
