PRETORIA - Acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane has confirmed two people have been arrested in connection with the brazen robbery at OR Tambo International Airport a week ago.

Phahlane made the announcement at a briefing in Pretoria on Tuesday evening.

Several robbers dressed in police uniforms and driving bogus cop cars held up security last Tuesday, before stealing more than two dozen bags filled with foreign currency.

Phahlane says two more people are also being questioned in connection with the crime, one of them is a police officer.

The lieutenant general praised police officers for their tireless work on this case.

“Within a week of investigations, we can confirm that four people have been taken in for questioning – of which two appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court today. Two people are currently being questioned and it is regrettable that one of our own members is among the two.”

At the same time, Phahlane says four people have been arrested in connection with the murder of 14 men in Benoni.

Six bodies were first discovered last week Sunday, while another eight victims were found nearby a day later.
