JOHANNESBURG - Games of Thrones actor Neil Fingleton has died at the age of 36.

Fingleton played Mag the Mighty in the popular fantasy series.

The actor, who started off in basketball in the USA before becoming an actor, was named Britain’s tallest man at 7ft 7in. He starred in X-Men: First Class and Jupiter Ascending, and recently in the Game of Thrones.

Reports say he died as a result of a heart failure on Saturday.

A statement posted on the Tall Persons Club group Facebook page on Sunday read: “Sadly it has come to our attention that Neil Fingleton, Britain’s Tallest Man, passed away on Saturday. Neil became Britain’s Tallest Man in 2007 passing the height of Chris Greener. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family.”

On the Guinness World Records website, Neil Fingleton said in 2006: "I am one of three siblings - my sister who is 6 feet 3 inches is the eldest at 30, my brother is 6 feet 8 inches who is 29 and I am 7 feet 7 inches at 26. My mother is 6 feet tall and my father was also. My great grandfather was 6 feet 8 inches. I have always been taller than everyone since I can remember. My height really took off when I reached 11 and was touching 7 feet. By the time I was 16 I was 7 feet 5 inches and stopped growing at 18 when I was 7 feet 7.56 inches.

Game of Thrones fan Gary Windle tweeted a picture of himself with the actor and wrote: “Rip to the giant that is Neil Fingleton, Mag the Mighty, Game of Thrones, rest in peace mate, gutted.”
