Khayelitsha residents & police join hands to fight crime
The Harare community policing forum says some residents fed up with crime in the area.
CAPE TOWN - The Harare Community Policing Forum (CPF) says some residents fed up with crime in the area are taking matters into their own hands.
This comes amid an apparent spike in gang violence in the Khayelitsha community.
In the latest incident last week, 18-year-old Luzuko April was beaten to death after alleged gang members stormed his family home.
At least 14 arrests have been made and locals are now conducting street patrols.
Police believe the suspects arrested for April's murder are affiliated to a gang that has been terrorising the Harare community.
The motive behind the youth's murder is unclear.
Gangsters are also apparently targeting a local school.
The CPF's Ronnie Busakwe says some residents have taken it upon themselves to assist police in conducting patrols, especially at the beginning and end of the school day.
