JOHANNESBURG – As rainy weather persists in parts of Gauteng on Wednesday morning, forecasters say residents should prepare for possible flooding in low lying areas.

The South African Weather Service says downpours will continue for the rest of the week, with temperatures also expected to drop significantly in the province.

Wet conditions are also expected to spread into the KwaZulu-Natal and Free State provinces.

The Weather Service says while the chance of thundershowers will drop in Gauteng, in Limpopo there will be an 80% chance on Wednesday.

Forecaster Bransby Bulo says, β€œIt will be cloudy and cool with 80% of showers and thundershowers in the afternoon. The 80% chance will be north as well as the northern parts of Mpumalanga.”

He says people living in low lying areas should be extra cautious as the day proceeds.

As wet weather conditions are expected to spread into parts of the country, Cape Town should remain dry for most of the week.
