HARARE - Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe turned 93 on Tuesday and state media has been marking the occasion.

State newspapers have carried 26 pages of advertisements congratulating him.

The congratulatory messages are from government ministries, state-run firms, universities and schools.

In all, there are around 26 pages of full-colour adverts in the state-run daily, The Herald.

Last night, state TV broadcast the first half of its lengthy annual interview with President Robert Mugabe.

In it, the president appeared tired, with frequent pauses and the occasional hesitation as he looked for the right words.

The main celebration will take place on Saturday, with a big party planned for him and his supporters in the Matopos, in the south of the country.
