Girl (11) shot in gang crossfire remains stable in hospital

CAPE TOWN - An 11-year-old girl shot and wounded in gang crossfire in Elsies River remains in a stable condition in hospital.

Zhekiria Jansen was shot in the head after getting caught in the crossfire of rival gangs who opened fire outside a shop in Leonsdale.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon.

A woman, in her forties, was also struck by a stray bullet when gang members opened fire.

The police’s Frederick Van Wyk says no arrests have yet been made.

“We opened an attempted murder case for further investigation. We urge anyone with information about this shooting incident to contact Crime Stop (on 08600 10111) or Elsies River police. “

In another gang shooting in the area in December, seven-year-old Charneal Carstens was shot and killed while playing outside her family home.
