CAPE TOWN - Proteas quick Kagiso Rabada was picked up for $750 000 by the Delhi Daredevils at the Indian Premier League auction on Monday.

The 21-year-old, who is currently South Africa’s premier fast bowler was the subject of a fierce bidding battle between the Daredevils and the Kings XI Punjab.

Rabada should be able to settle in quickly as he joins fellow South Africans JP Duminy, Chris Morris and Quinton De Kock in the Daredevils squad.

The dynamic fast bowler was also the third highest international player sold at the auction. The honour of the most expensive player went to England all-rounder Ben Stokes, he was drafted in by the Rising Pune Giants for over $2m. Englishman Tymal Mills was also picked up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping $1.8m.

The world’s number one ODI and T20 bowler, Imran Tahir, was surprisingly unsold at the auction.
