CAPE TOWN - A Khayelitsha mother has been arrested more than a month after her 3-year-old daughter was abandoned at Bellville Station.

Detectives have been trying to trace the relatives of Asemahle Siphamla since 31 December.

The little girl was able to tell police her name, age and that she’s from Khayelitsha.

Witnesses at the time told police that Simphamla was last seen at the station with an unknown woman who’d left without her.

Last week, the Pink Ladies organisation distributed a flyer to the public requesting information about the case.

Relatives came forward after seeing the flyer.

The organisation’s Dessie Rechner said: “The case of the little abandoned girl has been solved and they will go forward and the child will stay in a safe place now and the justice system must take over.”
