CAPE TOWN - A pedestrian has died after being knocked over on the N7 highway alongside the Dunoon informal settlement on Friday.

The woman, believed to be in her thirties, sustained fatal injuries to her face and head.

The driver of the bakkie was unharmed.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring: "ER24 paramedics, along with the Life Healthcare, arrived on the scene and found the body of a woman lying in the left-hand lane of the road. The bakkie was found parked just a short distance away. Paramedics assessed the woman and found that she had sustained numerous injuries to her face and head and showed no signs of life."

Despite renewed calls for pedestrians to refrain from crossing freeways pedestrian deaths on highways continue to be a major problem for traffic authorities.
