[LISTEN] DA heads to court over deployment of 441 soldiers at #Sona2017
DA leader Mmusi Maimane says it was irrational to bring in the army when there was no immediate threat to Parliament.
JOHANNESBURG – Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane says the party will be launching legal action over the deployment of South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members and the police within Parliament.
Maimane says it was irrational to bring the army when there was no immediate threat to a space where South Africans can come and contest ideas.
On Tuesday, President Jacob Zuma announced 441 members of the SANDF would be employed together with the South African Police Service (SAPS) to “maintain law and order” during the opening of Parliament where he delivered his State of the Nation Address (Sona).
