Sassa to approach ConCourt over payment plan extension
The Social Security Agency says it will head to the court to ask for an extension of its contract with Cash Paymaster Services.
JOHANNESBURG - The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) says it will head to the Constitutional Court next week to ask for an extension of its contract with Cash Paymaster Services.
Sassa had planned to approach the highest court in the country on Wednesday, but realised it was not ready to submit a report with some details still missing.
If the contract is not extended, millions of South Africans who rely on the grants might not be paid.
The agency says the distribution of grants is complex as various departments are involved and needs to be carefully considered.
Sassa's Kgomoco Diseko says, “There were some loose ends that needed to be tightened. The report to the court will only be submitted in the coming week. At the moment we have options that are open on how we’ll distribute social grants.”
