Vuwani residents: Closure of council office a small price to pay
Residents want the demarcation board to reverse its decision and keep the area under the Makhado Municipality.
VUWANI - Residents say the closure of their local municipal office and traffic station is a small price to pay until the demarcation board reverse its decision and keeps the area under the Makhado Municipality.
On Monday residents took to the streets demanding the offices be shut down as they operate under the Malamulele Municipality.
Last year at least 30 schools were either torched or vandalised in a similar protest.
After Monday’s shutdown there seems to be some activity in the area, with the local shopping centre open on Tuesday morning and taxis operating.
A resident said they would survive even though the municipal office remains closed.
“I will just take a dustbin and put fire there and burn them."
There's still a heavy police presence in the area.
