Parly committee to ask Motsoaledi to table Esidimeni report
Ninety-four mentally ill patients died after they were transferred from Life Healthcare Esidimeni to 27 NGOs in the province.
JOHANNESBURG – Parliament's portfolio committee on health says it will this week request Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi to officially table the report into circumstances surrounding the deaths of 94 mentally ill patients who were transferred from Life Healthcare Esidimeni.
The patients were moved to 27 non-governmental organisations in the Gauteng province, which were found by the Health Ombudsman to be operating illegally.
Professor Malegapuru Makgoba found that the Gauteng Health Department acted recklessly and negligently in their decision to move the patients.
