14 Somali nationals killed in SA since beginning of 2017
Last week three Somali nationals were gunned down within minutes of each other in the Khayelitsha township.
CAPE TOWN – The Somali Community Board of South Africa says it’s planning to meet with police this week to discuss a spate of killings of fellow countrymen in the Western Cape.
The board says 14 Somali nationals have been killed since the start of the year.
At least 12 of these murders have occurred in the Khayelitsha area.
Last week, three Somalis were gunned down within minutes of each other in the township.
The board’s Amir Sheikh says, “First of all, it’s not the first time such killings are happening. On average, every year we lose not less than 100 Somali nationals across the country and half of that population are actually only in the Western Cape, specifically in the informal settlements areas, that’s Khayelitsha and surroundings.”
