Govt to shift focus to helping small mining firms - Zwane
Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane says the success of smaller mining companies could be key in creating much-needed jobs.
CAPE TOWN - Government will be shifting its focus to assisting small mining companies this year.
That has been one of the main messages delivered by Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane during his welcoming address at the Mining Indaba.
The annual four-day event kicked off in Cape Town on Monday.
According to the Chamber of Mines, the sector has lost 60,000 jobs over the past four years.
Minister Zwane says the success of smaller mining companies could be key in creating a magnitude of much-needed jobs.
Trade and Investment Minister Rob Davies says minority shareholders must become real players in the industry.
Davies is further calling for investment inclusiveness and for inequality to be addressed more radically.
