ANC slams GP ANCYL over stance on Life Esidimeni tragedy
The ANC has lashed out on the ANCYL in Gauteng for pressing charges against Premier Makhura and former MEC Mahlangu for the tragedy which resulted in 94 deaths.
JOHANNESBURG – The African National Congress (ANC) has hit out at its youth league in Gauteng for its statements on the Life Esidimeni tragedy, describing them as despicable and atrocious.
The ruling party says that what happened to the 94 patients who died after being moved from Life Esidimeni is a “devastating, traumatic catastrophe” that should never be repeated.
The mother body is seething after the league in Gauteng joined opposition parties in pressing charges against Premier David Makhur a and former Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu for their handling of the tragedy.

Spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says: “This is not a time to grandstand. Even if there are issues, for example, their comment on the replacement of the MEC by Gwen Ramokgopa was inappropriate.”
