CAPE TOWN - The cross-examination of a 29-year-old man accused of murdering his 15-year-old girlfriend in Bredasdorp has entered its second day.

Gift Sabondo is on trial at the Western Cape High Court for the murder of Elda Jaftha.

Jaftha's body was found in the shack she shared with Sabondo in May 2015.

The 29-year-old faces charges of kidnapping, statutory rape and murder.

Sabondo has already testified that he encouraged a healthy relationship between Jaftha and her mother Eva Lackay.

He has refuted claims that Lackay told him to leave her daughter.

But the State has highlighted that the deceased’s mother reported Sabondo to the police in 2013 because she was against the relationship.
