EFF: Shelve Zuma’s State of the Nation Address
The party says President Zuma's State of the Nation Address should be shelved and the time should be used for debate instead.
In a statement, the EFF says it's conveyed its demand to National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete in writing.
The party says Parliament has failed to hold Zuma to account despite the Constitutional Court's ruling that he failed to uphold his oath of office in relation to the Nkandla matter last year.
EFF leader Julius Malema warned last month that Mbete should be ready for action at the opening of Parliament next Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Secretary to Parliament Gengezi Mgidlana says it's all systems go and that the cost is likely to be half a million rand less than last year.
“In terms of the costs, you’ll recall that last year the event cost Parliament about R4.5 million. This year, we’ve been consistent with the approach that we’ve tried as Parliament and made sure that the event remains at R4 million.”
