[EDITORIAL] Who knows what to believe anymore
As we all know there has been a proliferation of fake news lately.
Who knows what to believe anymore!
Our role as credible journalists has always been that of curators and gate keepers – and in this age of ‘fake news’ and ‘alternative facts’, our role as fact-checking watchdogs becomes more important than ever.
At Eyewitness News we believe we need to counter the lies and the ‘fake news’ with the truth and a reality check.
It also means that we need to be industry leaders in these matters and as a result we have introduced what we believe is an industry first in our country.
As of this week you will find a Fake News Alert that pops up on your screen every time you go onto www.ewn.co.za - warning people to be careful with the type of content they consume.
We hope to educate our audience on the dangers and pitfalls of news that doesn’t come from credible sources, and which is simply not true.
We’re also helping you spot fake news with a simple guide on how to separate the truth from the trash.
We all have a responsibility to disseminate news that is factual and correct.
Let us know if you spot fake news or need help checking whether something is true or not by emailing email@example.com.
