CAPE TOWN – Police are still searching for a gunman behind two separate shootings in Cape Town this past week, during which a baby was wounded and her mother killed.

A six-month-old baby girl was shot and wounded in an apparent robbery in the Sweet Home Farm informal settlement in Philippi on Wednesday morning.

The previous night, a five-year-old girl was shot and wounded after being caught in the crossfire of gang violence in Hanover Park.

Western Cape Community Safety MEC Dan Plato has condemned the crimes.

“I am happy that the police are on top of the situation. It is important for the police to make quick arrests bringing those responsible in front of the courts.”

Both children are in a critical condition in hospital.
