JOHANNESBURG - While the country remains gripped by a drought, the South African Weather Service says wetter conditions can be expected during the latter part of the summer season.

Concerns over water supply have risen after an El Nino weather pattern last year brought drought conditions, hurting agricultural output.

The weather service in its monthly forecast, which looks up to five months ahead, also said temperatures are expected to be warmer than normal across the country.

Forecaster Cobus Olivier said: "The likelihood is slightly favouring wetter conditions. However, it remains low. So the chance of it being wet is quite low and remains low from the previous season."
