Contractor selection a problem for DWS - Makwetu

CAPE TOWN - The selection of poor-performing contractors is among the key issues facing the Water and Sanitation Department.
That's according to a report by the Auditor-General Kimi Makwetu.
The portfolio committee on water and sanitation has been briefed on the findings of the report at Parliament.
Makwetu says that his office has analysed the project planning management and implementation of 15 water projects in six provinces.
“We did this to highlight areas where services can be improved for the delivery of infrastructure.”
Other challenges faced include the use of inappropriate technologies, resulting in system failures.
In one instance, the report states that poor communication, mentioned repeatedly in the document, resulted in the incorrect placement of an electrical connection.
