Gauteng police have made 2,400 arrests in one week
A 50-year-old man believed to be the ringleader of a hijacking gang in Ekhurleni is among those arrested.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police say they made over 2,400 arrests in the last week, including a 50-year-old man believed to be the ringleader of a gang hijacking vehicles in Ekhurleni.
At the weekend authorities tracked a stolen vehicle to the man's home where a number of other stolen cars were recovered and linked to other cases.
In a separate operation on Friday, the remains of a 36-year-old woman were discovered buried in a garden in Hammanskraal.
It’s alleged she was murdered and buried by her partner.
Spokesperson Mavele Masondo says most of the suspects will appear in various courts on Monday.
“We had arrests in Ekurhukleni, as well as Tshwane. To be specific, in Tshwane we arrested 591 suspects, they were also arrested for committing crimes such as business robberies, house robberies, possession of suspected stolen property, house breaking and driving under the influence of alcohol.”
