City of CT comes to aid of Nyanga shack fire victims

The city says it's provided fire kits to Nyanga residents after a shack fire destroyed more than a dozen homes.

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town says it's provided fire kits to Nyanga residents after a shack fire destroyed more than a dozen homes at the weekend.

The blaze burned through the Mkhonto Square Informal Settlement on Friday evening, leaving more than 70 people destitute.

Cape Town Disaster Risk Management's Charlotte Powell says no one was injured during the incident.

“Over 70 people have been affected and the SA Red Cross Society is providing relief.”
