CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works says a section of the N1 will close soon as part of the ongoing project to expand the highway.

From 7pm on Saturday, the N1 incoming between the R300 and Durban Road will be closed to traffic until 8am on Sunday morning.

This would allow road crews to safely remove overhead traffic signs in order to extend the third lane between Old Oak and Durban Road.

Transport and public works MEC Donald Grant said, “We obviously chose this time to minimise the negative impact on road users who are inbound on the N1 or on the R300 towards Cape town.”

Grant says detour signage has been put in place and a detour map has been uploaded on the provincial government website.
